A M.Ed. with a major in Educational Foundations prepares educators to assume leadership roles in solving educational problems in a variety of settings such as schools, businesses, nonprofit organizations, zoos, museums, churches, and government agencies.

Educational Foundations is the name given to the contribution from disciplines such as psychology, philosophy, history, and sociology to the field of education.  This degree is deeply rooted in the study of these contributions and the way in which they form a basis for thinking about educational questions and solving educational problems and has particular appeal for international students, many of whom are enrolled in the program.  Students may minor in museum studies, religion, child life, special education, research and evaluation, urban education, or other areas.  The program is designed to address the needs of students who want to continue teaching in a more thoughtful way or for those who are educators in environments other than schools.
