Undergraduate
Admission
Declaration
of a major in education is not synonymous with admission to the Teacher
Education Program. Students who plan to major in
education or who plan to earn a teaching certificate must apply
for admission to the Teacher Education Program of the university.
All students seeking teacher certification through the EC-4 program,
Middle School program, and the Secondary School program must apply
to the Teacher Education Program. Students seeking All-Level certification
or the Educational Studies minor must also apply to the Teacher
Education Program.
To be eligible for admission, students should submit a formal application and must meet, or will meet
during the semester in which they apply, the following minimum
criteria; meeting only the minimum criteria, however, does not
ensure admission to the Teacher Education Program.
- Complete a minimum of 54 semester
hours of course work.
- Attain an overall GPA of 2.5 on
a minimum of 12 semester hours of course work at
TCU.
- Complete a course in each of
the following areas of study: Speech Communication
(Oral
Communication) and *EDUC 20003 (Critical Inquiry)
with a grade of ‘C’ or better. *All-Level students
check with your advisor for possible substitute.
- Achieve a grade of C or better in any education course taken prior to admission.
- Grant
permission for a school district to complete a criminal record
check.
- Submit proof of educational
liability insurance for protection when assigned
to work in
schools with students.
- Attain required scores on
one of the tests of basic skills to qualify
for admission
to the Teacher Education Program.

TCU does not administer the THEA (TASP). For more information about the THEA (TASP), click here.
Students who wish to apply for admission to the Teacher Education Program
should do so by March 1 for fall admission and by October 1 for
spring admission.
Eligibility to apply does not ensure admission to the Teacher
Education Program.
All recommendations
for admission will be contingent upon fulfillment of the established
criteria and available space in the program
to which they are applying. If a student’s GPA falls below
the minimum overall requirement of 2.5 or the student fails to
meet other criteria, such as passing THEA (TASP) scores, the student
will be denied admission. Any student who is denied admission may
reapply
later if the criteria for admission are met.
Transfer Student Admission
To be eligible to apply for admission, in addition to meeting
the minimum criteria, students transferring from another institution
must complete a minimum of 12 hours of course work at TCU with
at least a 2.5 grade point average.
